Instructor: Sydney Shea
Schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays, 9-noon
Start Date: May 25, 2016
End Date: June 8, 2016
This program meets twice weekly, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 - noon at the Grand Rapids boathouse. No class on Monday, May 30.
The class is designed for adult rowers who have either participated in a 100-level learn to row session or have other substantial rowing experience. Participants will focus on learning techniques to build endurance and speed on the water, beginning racing strategy, and a greater overall sweep skill set. The content of all 200-level courses is the same.
The intensity of all sessions will be based on the ability and desire of the participants.
What to bring: Rowing is a good workout. Wear workout clothes. Wear tight-fitting shorts (spandex if you dare), as loose-fitting clothes will get caught in the rowing shell's mechanisms. Wear socks that you are not afraid to get dirty - really dirty - and shoes that you can easily slip off.
We recommend bringing bug spray, sunglasses, and a full water bottle to every practice.
Rowing is a water sport. We could row in the rain, so a towel and change of clothes in your car is also a good idea.
Please note: As all classes take place outdoors, we have periodically been forced to cancel individual class periods due to flooding or bad weather. We guarantee that we will hold at least 7 of 8 scheduled class periods - and typically are able to "make up" lost classes, as well.
IMPORTANT: Participants who have not previously participated in a 2016 GRRA class and are not members will need to read, print, and bring this (signed) waiver to the first session! We must have a signed waiver from you in order to place you in a boat!
