Junior Rowing - Mandatory Swim Test

  • 02 Apr 2015
  • 4:45 PM - 5:45 PM
  • GRCC Pool - Ford Fieldhouse

A mandatory swim test has been scheduled for new and returning Junior rowers for the 2015 spring rowing season.  It will take place in the GRCC pool inside the Ford Fieldhouse.  You can enter the pool entrance at the back of the building off of Ransom.  Please bring a copy of the swimming certification form with you.

Junior rowers will need to bring:  spending money for dinner (BW3), a towel, a swim suit, t-shirt, shorts and a change of clothes.  They will be wearing the shorts and t-shirt over their swim suits when they go into the pool.  This is to simulate what it would be like to flip your boat during practice or at a race.  For the test, they will be swimming two lengths of the pool (not timed), treading water/floating for five minutes and then putting on a life jacket while still in the water.  The test is to show that the rower is comfortable in the water.

After the swim test, the team will be walking over to the BW3 restaurant with Coach Bartley (8 Ionia Avenue NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503).  Parents are welcome to join the team for dinner and should be at the restaurant by 5:45pm.  This is a fun, yearly event and a great way for new rowers and their parents to meet the coach as well as returning families.

If you have not registered yet for the spring season, please do so by clicking on the link below.  Payment/payment plan is due by Friday, April 17, 2015.
