Dustin Ordway rowed for MIT between 1969 and 1974 where, after starting his career as a lightweight, he switched to heavyweight varsity and was fortunate to be able to row in a 4+ that won the 1972 Head of the Charles. He went to compete at Henley, Nottingham, and Zurich in 1973, and was in the second-place varsity eight at the 1974 IRA National Championships.
Ordway began coaching the freshman men's team at Brown University in the 70's under Vic Michalson, and moved on to the University of Michigan mens team in the early 80's. During the last decade he has coached juniors, including his own three children, in Grand Rapids, and has also worked extensively with more senior rowers. Dustin took up sculling in the 1990s, attended Craftsbury sculling camp as a camper for several years, and started head racing in his single on the Grand, Thames and Welland, Ohio, Charles, Cuyahoga, and other locations, as well as enjoying open water rowing on Grand Traverse Bay, and competing when he can in MIT alumni eights. He has coached rowing for several seasons at the prestigious Craftsbury camp in Vermont, and is the author of " Row Daily, Breathe Deeper, Live Better", a 2008 book about using regular, moderate rowing for health.
